Peace Award at the Fringe

Working for Peace Through the Arts

All registered Fringe artists are invited to self-nominate for the Peace Foundation Award.

Eligibility

The Peace Award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival is open to all art forms including literature, music, performing arts, visual arts, craft, design, film, video, television, radio, community arts, Aboriginal arts and movable cultural heritage that relate to human rights, social justice and environmental sustainability.

Artwork must be in accord with one or more of the following Peace Foundation objectives:

  • Promoting peace and justice at family, community and international levels;
  • Promoting the reduction of injustice, racial tension, oppression and discrimination;
  • Increasing understanding and cooperation between political, racial and ethnic groups;
  • Supporting the rights of indigenous peoples to self-determination;
  • Promoting care of the environment and ecologically sustainable development.

Selection Process

The Peace Foundation will appoint a panel of judges which includes professional industry representatives. Based on the selection criteria, the judging panel will shortlist applicants, view artworks and select an award winner taking into consideration:

  • Affinity with the Peace Foundation objectives
  • Engagement – audience and critical response
  • Clarity of artistic vision
  • Fringe Factor – demonstrating creative risk-taking, innovation and experimentation and providing a unique audience experience.

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The Peace Foundation is not required to discuss the reasons for their decisions or give feedback on specific artworks.

The winner will be announced at the Fringe Awards Ceremony on Sunday 20 March 2022.

Conditions

  • The presenter agrees to allocate complimentary tickets to the Peace Foundation judging panel across the season. The presenter will bear the cost of complimentary ticket fees.
  • Any documentation requested must be correctly submitted in order to be considered for the award.
  • The Peace Foundation requires acknowledgment in future marketing material of the winning artwork for a period up to twelve months, this may include information about the award, the Peace Foundation logo and/or the Peace Foundation website address as provided by the Peace Foundation.
  • The Peace Foundation reserves the right not to fund any of the submissions presented in a particular year if it does not meet selection criteria.
  • All applications to be submitted online, no applications will be accepted by mail.

Applications must include the following:

  1. Application form
  2. Contact details for two (2) referees
  3. Up to two pages of any relevant supporting material. All supporting material should be clearly labelled.
