The launch of Speak Up, Reach Out: A life to reckon with, a memoir by Graham F. Smith. Celebrating a life well lived, the publication of this book was an important milestone for the Peace Foundation that bears his name. It was officially launched by Professor Barbara Pocock and Associate Professor Craig Campbell at the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery on Thursday 26 November.

Graham’s memoir is a microcosm of Australian politics and society at a particularly volatile time, seen through the eyes of a storyteller who was both compassionate and analytical. Speak Up, Reach Out does not provide answers to the petty discriminations that Graham experienced as a lifelong activist, educator and unionist; rather it details the achievements of a profoundly dignified and humble man who refused to be defined by the hostile environment in which he found himself. He deserves to be remembered as a significant part of South Australian history.
