This year’s award was presented by PJ Rose – recipient of our very first Peace Award at the Adelaide Fringe in 2011 (No Strings Attached for Knowing Home) PJ said Tony’s solo performance “radiates a call for justice and vibrates with consummate performance craft.”
Kafka’s Ape is a powerful yet sensitive solo performance about a primate’s struggle to overcome the confines of captivity. The play takes a metaphorical view of South African society, highlighting the complexities of identity in post-apartheid South Africa and in the human race in general. Through the journey of Red Peter the play provides a narrative that helps to question the understanding of otherness.
