Key Achievements in 2024-25
- Josh and Sophia Don’t Play Together Anymore
We were thrilled to announce that ActNow Theatre was awarded the $10,000 2024 Arts Peace Award for their groundbreaking production, Josh and Sophia Don’t Play Together Anymore. This project exemplifies the power of storytelling to challenge societal norms and improve relationships. Read more below in the update from our special guest speaker, Yasmin Gurreeboo.
- Sustainability Award at the Adelaide Fringe
This year, we proudly contributed $1,000 to sponsor the Sustainability Award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. By supporting this initiative, we amplify voices championing environmental stewardship and sustainability through the arts—a cause that aligns deeply with our mission.
- Twilight Time Documentary Screenings
In honour of Associate Professor Desmond Ball’s anti-nuclear advocacy, we supported two screenings of the documentary Twilight Time. These events featured an information booth and Art for Peace book sales, celebrating Desmond’s legacy and raising awareness about nuclear disarmament. The Semaphore event sold out, reflecting strong community interest in issues tied to AUKUS.
- Art for PEACE: The Story of the Graham F Smith Peace Foundation
Our efforts to promote The Story of the Graham F Smith Peace Foundation continue to gain momentum. Lisa, Leonie, and Marie have driven book sales and marketing initiatives. Their dedication ensures this vital narrative reaches broader audiences, inspiring new generations to engage in peacebuilding efforts.
- Kaurna Walks and Reconciliation Efforts
Kaurna cultural walks remain a cornerstone of our reconciliation outreach. Two sold-out walks were held in May, showcasing the rich history and traditions of the Kaurna people. However, Rod O’Brien has emphasised the need for support from younger Kaurna leaders to sustain and grow this vital program. We are actively exploring ways to empower emerging leaders within the community.
A Special Guest Speaker: Yasmin Gurreeboo
We were honoured to welcome Yasmin Gurreeboo, CEO and Artistic Director of ActNow Theatre, as our special guest speaker.
